TORONTO - Ontario's police watchdog is investigating the death of a man near Bathurst and Steeles.
Police responded to a "threatening suicide" call just before 6 a.m. Tuesday in the area of Chelmsford and Pleasant Aves.
"The province's Special Investigations Unit has invoked their mandate, so we can't comment further," Toronto Police Const. Jenifferjit Sidhu said.
The SIU, which investigates any serious injury or death involving police, has released few details so far.
"This is a death investigation," spokesman Jason Gennaro said, adding more information will be available Tuesday afternoon.
A section of Chelmsford Ave. remained cordoned off and under police guard following the death.
Blue medical gloves were left scattered in the blood-stained snow next to a red milk crate just outside of a fenced-in cemetery on the residential street.
