Two hurt in east Toronto, Victoria Park and Highway 401 afternoon shooting

Two people are in hospital after a Tuesday afternoon shooting in the Victoria Park and 401 area.

Emergency crews were called a little after 5:30 p.m. to the area of Parkwoods Village Dr. and Combermere Dr. for reports of a man shot inside a building, say Toronto police.

Once there, officers located two men suffering gunshot wounds — neither appearing to be life-threatening.

In their subsequent investigation, police have at least two people in custody in connection with the shooting, Const. David Hopkinson said.

No information on either the victims or suspects have been released by police.

2018 has been an especially violent year on city streets.

Tuesday excluded, police have responded to 212 shootings so far in the city — with 27 of this year’s 54 murders carried out at the barrel of a gun.

Thirty-nine year old Jibri James was the city’s latest such victim, gunned down just after midnight on July 9 at a home on Shoreham Ct. in the Jane St. and Steeles Ave. West area.

That shooting came less than 24 hours after Karim Hriani, 25, was shot to death in the courtyard of a housing complex on Driftwood Ave., less than 400 metres away from where James died.
