Paul Napolitano 19, of Toronto charged with murder in Canada Day stabbing of Matthew Lidster, 29

Toronto Police have made an arrest in the Canada Day stabbing death of a man on Danforth Ave.

Just after 3:30 a.m. Sunday, two passengers on the eastbound 300B blue line bus near Greenwood and Danforth Aves. began arguing — an altercation which turned physical once the men exited the bus.

That fight ended when one produced a knife and repeated stabbed the other.

The victim, identified by police as Matthew Lidster, 29, was rushed to hospital in critical condition where he later died.

On Tuesday, 19-year-old Paul Napolitano turned himself into police and was charged with second-degree murder.

He’ll make his first court appearance Wednesday morning.

Police wish to speak with two women who were on the bus Sunday morning.

One, who police say had a verbal exchange with a man at the back of the bus, is described as white with blonde hair wearing a black tank top.

The second woman, whom police believe overheard the exchange, was sitting at the rear of the bus and is described as white with brown hair.

Both women exited the bus, at 3:09 a.m. at what investigators believe was Castle Frank station.

Anybody with information should call Toronto police at 416-808-7400, or Crime Stoppers.
