Mark Thompson, 39, of Toronto is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Brent Young, 41, on June 25 2018

A second man wanted for first-degree murder in the shooting of a father in a downtown TCHC building has been charged.

Toronto Police say Mark Thompson, 39, was arrested on Thursday in the June 25 slaying of Brent Young. His co-accused, Warren Farrell, 26, was picked up on June 28 and faces the same charge.

The 41-year-old Young, who was soon to be the father of 12, was found fatally shot around 2:30 a.m. in a unit of a residential building on Sherboune St. near Dundas St. E.

Residents of the building say Young was a regular visitor but did not reside there.

An online tribute said Young was shot hours after attending a memorial for his son who was killed in a car accident a year earlier.

“He is leaving behind 11 kids varying in ages with one more on the way,” a GoFundMe page says. “Brent was a great father to his kids, as on the morning of, he was supposed to pick them up but never made it there. He was a great brother, cousin, uncle, family member and friend who will be remembered and greatly missed.”

Police are asking anyone who may have seen either of the accused on June 24 or 25 to call detectives at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers.

Young was the city’s 48th homicide of the year.
