Matthew Lidster, 29, of Toronto, was fatally stabbed on July 1, 2018, began as fight on the bus


What started as an altercation on a city transit bus ended in the city’s 51st murder of 2018.

At around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, two passengers on a TTC bus travelling in the area of Greenwood and Danforth Aves. got in an altercation, Toronto Police say.

The men exited the bus and began fighting. One of them produced a knife and stabbed the other repeatedly.

The bus driver and a number of bystanders, called for help. Emergency crews arrived to find the victim suffering from life-threatening stab wounds.

He was rushed to hospital in critical condition and later died.


The victim has been identified as Matthew Lidster, 29. He is the city’s 51st homicide of the year.

Police are looking for a white male in his 20s with a skinny build wearing all-black clothing.

The stabbing came just hours after Saturday’s triple shooting on Queen St. W. that claimed the lives of two people.
