Michael Lewis 30, of Markham killed in Coronation Park in Toronto the fourth shot dead in GTA on Sunday

Toronto Police say they’re searching for several suspects following a fatal shooting at a busy lakefront park near the CNE, the fourth to claim a life in the GTA on Sunday.

Witnesses reported multiple gunshots around 6:15 p.m. near a baseball diamond in Coronation Park, which was hosting a barbecue memorializing the 9th anniversary of the shooting of Kamal Hercules.

Investigators say four people were reported to have fled the scene before police arrived. One was wearing a grey Nike hoodie with a black stripe on the chest, police said.

People who had parked their cars in the area were not able to retrieve their vehicles until after 11 p.m. as police investigated.

The shooting — Toronto’s 73rd murder of the year — capped a violent 18 hours in the GTA that saw three other people shot dead.

At about 12:45 a.m., Peel Regional Police say a man and a woman were shot in the area of Vodden St. E., west of Kennedy Rd., in Brampton. The man, 27-year old Clifford Correia of Brampton, died in hospital

About six hours later, at 6:35 a.m., a second shooting in Brampton, on Townley Cres., claimed the life of Derrick McKeown, 33, of Georgetown. Police say they “believe these were targeted incidents and appear to be related to one another.”

On Monday, Patrick Doyle, 27, of Brampton, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one of attempted murder.

In Scarborough around 1:50 a.m., two men were shot in the Alford Cres. and McLevin Ave. area, west of Morningside Ave.

Rudolph Augustus Tyrell, 30, of Toronto, died in hospital.

The gunman is described as male, wearing a black hoodie, black shirt, baseball cap, black pants.
