Extortionist targets Toronto's Chinatown business

Toronto Police are looking for a criminal who has a new twist on extortion.

A man was caught on security camera on June 18 smashing the window of a business in the Spadina Ave.-D’Arcy St. area.

The man is seen tossing what police described as a threatening note through the window demanding money within 24 hours.

It was the third time the business was targeted. The first two times the notes were left at the door.

The notes indicated that the man was seekng a “large sum of money,” said Const. Jen Sidhu.

Police said arrangements were made, but no money exchanged hands.

The suspect left a contact phone number in the notes, but it is unclear if the number was valid.

“The main concern is there may be other victims who haven’t come forward,” Sidhu said.
