The alleged culprits behind a crime spree that shook to the core innocent victims in three GTA jurisdictions were captured in a dramatic police takedown in Brampton.
Just after midnight Saturday a vehicle carrying the suspects collided with a Peel Regional Police cruiser near Brampton’s Centre St. and Williams Pkwy.
Sources say up to 10 cop cars were on the scene as five males were taken into custody.
And Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit was called in because some of the suspects were said to be hurt in the crash.
No details on injuries were immediately available.
The five accused are believed to have been behind at least 15 armed robberies in Halton Region, Peel Region and Toronto.
“These incidents are particularly disturbing given the reported young age of the perpetrators, the level of violence and their disregard for the safety of others.” Halton Regional Police Det.- Sgt. Dave Costantini said in a news release.
Peel cops say the suspects are all under the age of 18 and can’t be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Masked bandits reportedly targeted gas stations, variety stores and pizza shops, making off with thousands of dollars in cash during the robbery spree.
Police have alleged the crooks were driving a blue 2005 Honda Civic stolen from Toronto.
Halton cops said at one point Thursday they had located a suspect vehicle and chased it but abandoned the pursuit for safety reasons.
