A 26-year-old man, believed to have been the intended target of a shooting that saw two little girls wounded by stray bullets in a Scarborough playground earlier this summer, faces a slew of gun and drug charges.
In the wake of the June 14 shooting, Toronto Police launched an investigation based on information that a man was in illegal possession of a firearm.
Investigators subsequently executed a search warrant on Friday at a residence near Eglinton Ave. E. and McCowan Rd., police say.
It is alleged that a man was located and officers seized a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun, various rounds of ammunition, as well as a quantity of crack cocaine and heroin, acting Insp. Don Belanger, of the Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force, said in a statement Friday.
Clinton McDonald, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with 16 related offences.
Police allege the accused was the intended target of the playground shooting at a townhouse complex on Alton Towers Circle, near McCowan Rd. and McNicoll Ave., where two young sisters, were struck by gunfire.
A five-year-old girl was shot in the stomach and her sister, 9, was hit in the ankle.
Sheldon Eriya, 21, and Tarrick Rhoden, 23, have been previously charged in connection to this reckless shooting.
A fourth man — T’Quan Robertson, 23, of Toronto – is still wanted on an arrest warrant in relation to this incident.
Anyone with information regarding Robertson’s whereabouts is urged to call police at 416-808-4200 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
