Toronto Police have arrested a man and a boy they have dubbed the ‘Carjacking Bandits.’
Police say between April 14 and 23, there were 14 armed robberies, including carjackings, that took place throughout the GTA at gas station convenience stores. It is alleged a boy and a man entered the store and propped the entrance door open. Both had either a knife or a handgun and they would force their way behind the counter.The pair would take cash from the till, cigarettes, lottery tickets, and any merchandise they could grab.
At one location, police say the suspects demanded a victim’s car keys and used it as a getaway vehicle.
They would flee the locations in stolen vehicles.
During the course of these retail robberies, police say four different stolen vehicles were used by the duo.
It’s alleged the suspects forced and demanded the vehicles be turned over to them by using a handgun and a knife.
On May 24, 2020, Thunder Bay Police arrested Javoi Elwood, 18, of no fixed address.
He is charged with two counts of robbery, robbery with a gun, robbery with an offensive weapon, conspiracy to commit an indictable offense, 12 counts of disguise with intent, three counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, six counts of failing to comply with probation and dangerous operation of a vehicle.
On April 23, 2020, a 17-year-old, of no fixed address, was arrested.
Because of his age, he can not be identified.
He is charged with conspiracy to commit an indictable offense, dangerous operation of a conveyance, seven counts of disguise with intent, seven counts of failing to comply with probation, six counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, two counts of robbery with a firearm, robbery to steal a firearm, robbery with an offensive weapon, and theft of a motor vehicle.
