16-year-old boy injured in drive-by shooting on Yorkwoods Gate and Jane St
Toronto police say a 16-year-old boy has been seriously injured after a shooting in Toronto’s north end on Thursday night.
Emergency crews were called to the area of Jane Street and Yorkwoods Gate, south of Finch Avenue West, at 10:30 p.m.
Toronto paramedics say the victim had serious injuries and was rushed to a trauma centre.
“Our investigation is underway, and what we believe happened is four young men were crossing the street and they were approached by a vehicle,” Insp. Jim Gotell told reporters Thursday night.
“One of the suspects in the vehicle opened fire on the four young men, and one of the males was shot.”
Gotell said the boy’s injuries are serious but not life-threatening. He said none of the others were injured in the gunfire.
“The four people were very scared by what had happened, and they ran, randomly, to a local home.
They knocked on the door of the home, or banged on [the] door of the home, and asked for help.
That’s when 911 was contacted,” Gotell said.
Police had originally said the victim was a 15-year-old boy but in an update Thursday morning police said the boy is 16-years-old.
Police are asking anyone with information related to the shooting or dashcam footage of the area to contact investigators at 416-808-3100.
The shooting came shortly after three other reported instances of gunfire in Toronto.
Police say a 64-year-old man was taken to a hospital in serious condition after being shot during one of the incidents.
As of Thursday night, it wasn’t clear if all of the incidents were connected.
