TORONTO - Three Toronto firefighters have been fired for inappropriate tweets.
“An investigation was done by the city at large and there were significant findings that city policies were violated. You can’t break city rules,” District Fire Chief Stephan Powell said Monday.
“They were exposed through social media. We are striving for a perfect workplace with no harassment.”
Two of the firefighters were suspended with pay and during the investigation it came to light there was a third involved.
“There was a pattern here,” said Powell, who didn’t know exactly what the tweets were.
Toronto Fire Chief Jim Sales said there was a “comprehensive” investigation where the matter was “carefully considered.
“(This was a violation) that is not in any way acceptable and we have taken action to terminate three employees,” Sales said.
