TORONTO – A 14-year-old boy has been charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of 16-year-old Yusuf Tifow.
Tifow
was shot and killed Sunday in a Weston Road apartment building. He was
without vital signs when police arrived around midnight, then rushed to
hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police have not identified the 14-year old charged in the shooting due to provisions in the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
Tifow was the city’s 40th homicide victim of 2013 and is the latest in a series of teens killed in Toronto’s west end over the past two months.
On
July 28, 15-year-old Tahj Loor-Walters was shot outside of his building
near Jane Street and Finch Avenue. He died in hospital over two weeks
later.
And on August 23, 16-year-old O’She Doyles-Whyte and
15-year-old Kwame Duodu were shot and killed in a daylight shooting
outside of a Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) building on
Grandravine Drive.
Police have not made any arrests in either shooting.
