Three wounded in GTA shootings

A man is in hospital with a head wound after bullets riddled an east-end Toronto neighbourhood Friday morning.

At least two guns were used in the shooting around 2:30 a.m. on Walpole Ave., in the Gerrard St. E. and Greenwood Ave. area.

Hours later as Toronto Police investigated, dozens of markers indicating shell casings could be seen on the street, several cars had bullet holes, and some houses had shots go through their windows.

“The initial call came in for the sounds of 10 to 15 shots,” police spokesman Katrina Arrogante said.

“A man was dropped off at a hospital, by a vehicle, with a serious gunshot wound and it was related to the shooting. He was then taken by emergency services to another hospital.”

Carlos Chavez lives five doors away from the shooting location and says it is just too close to home.

“It woke me up and at first I thought someone was chopping wood. Then I thought, who would do that at this time of the morning. I realized it was gunfire and that’s disturbing,” said Chavez, who owns a clothing store on Danforth Ave., where two people were killed and several others were injured last summer by a gunman.

“All this gun violence is too much. You just aren’t safe.”

Local Councillor Paula Fletcher came to the shooting scene and says people in the neighbourhood feel violated.

“Look at all the bullets fired here. Anyone could have been hit,” she said.

Meanwhile, a second man was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to his torso, Toronto Police say, after a shooting in Scarborough Thursday night.

Officers were called to the Shallice Court and Durness Ave. area, near Sheppard Ave. E. and Hwy. 401, around 8 p.m. for reports a man had been shot.

A man in his 30s was located and taken to a trauma centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

There was no immediate information on any suspects.

More gunshots occurred early Friday in the George Henry Blvd. and Parkway Forest Dr. area, near Don Mills and Sheppard Ave. E.

Police say they found evidence of gunfire after receiving reports around 4:30 a.m.

And in Mississauga, a man is in non-life-threatening condition after being shot at Derry and Airport Rds. around 10 p.m. Thursday.
