Photos released of suspects in Toronto New Year's Day assault
Toronto police are searching for two suspects after a New Year’s Day attack left one man in hospital.
Emergency crews were called to the scene on Queen Street West just west of Bathurst Street around 12:30 a.m.
It was reported that a 36-year-old man was walking along Queen and got into a fight with two men.
The victim was punched by one of the men and fell to the ground unconscious. It was reported that the second man then punched the unconscious victim.
The two men fled the area southbound on Bathurst in a blue Dodge Charger.
When police arrived on scene they found the victim still unconscious.
He was rushed to hospital with serious injuries. While at hospital, his condition worsened and was considered critical.
Police say his injuries are still considered life-threatening.
Cycle Toronto and Bike Law Canada have identified the victim as David Shellnutt, a social justice lawyer and bike advocate.
Witnesses told police the attack was unprovoked and appeared to be random.
One suspect is described as between 25 and 35 years of age, about six feet tall with corn rows and a beard. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black running shoes.
The second suspect is described as between 25 and 35 years of age, about five feet nine inches tall with short black hair. He was wearing glasses, a black hooded jacket, ripped faded blue jeans, and blue/white running shoes.
