Toronto's 53rd homicide: Man gunned down near Jane St and Driftwood in North York on Sunday July 8, 2018
A man was shot to death early Sunday in the northwestern part of the city.
Cops say that paramedics were called to the area of Driftwood Ave. and Jane St. — one of Toronto’s most violent corridors — around 3:30 a.m.
One male was pronounced dead at the scene. The name and age of the victim have not yet been released and the homicide unit has taken over the probe.
The murder — Toronto’s 53rd of the year — comes on the heels of a visit Saturday from newly-minted Premier Doug Ford.
Ford tweeted: “Enjoyed meeting with the great community members in the Driftwood neighbourhood yesterday along with Minister @MichaelTibollo and officers from 31 Division. We are focused on building strong connections between communities and our police services.”
Sunday’s shooting was also the 26th gun murder of 2018.
So far, cops have not released details on any suspects.
