Toronto Police unveil Gun Violence Reduction Strategy

Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders announced a new strategy aimed at curbing gun violence, which has recently plagued the city.

Saunders said Toronto Police will be adding more front-line officers for the next eight weeks, starting July 20, between the hours of 7 p.m. and 3 a.m., when he says gun violence takes place.

There will also be more investment in prevention programs, working in conjunction with the city and other community agencies, such as Toronto Community Housing.

Mayor John Tory says violence crime has “shaken neighbourhoods” and that he’s supportive with Saunder’s plan.

More to come.
