TTC riders, who use the transit agency’s lot at Yorkdale mall, will have to look elsewhere for parking in the New Year.
The shopping centre, owned by Oxford Properties Group, is expanding and building new underground parking that will include a TTC lot when it opens in the fall of 2015. Retail will be built overhead.
Starting Jan. 6, transit users are being asked to drive to the TTC’s lots at Wilson, Downsview or Finch or, consider riding the bus to the subway.
The TTC has 1,010 parking spots at Yorkdale. There’s a $5 charge to park between 5:30 a.m. and 9 a.m.
The TTC will, however, save about $3 million because it won’t be required to pay half of the structural maintenance costs of that parking lot for the remainder of its 40-year lease at the mall, which doesn’t end until about 2025.
