Toronto Police probe suspicious death in Riverside near Saulter and Queen Sts
Toronto police located the remains of a dead man Friday morning in a lot off an alley behind a Riverside community centre.
The death has been deemed suspicious by the coroner and an autopsy has been ordered.
The body was found at 7:30 a.m., off Saulter St. by Queen St. behind the Ralph Thornton Community Centre and the Queen Saulter Public Library.
The man, believed to be in his 60s, had trauma to his face, police said.
“The coroner called for an autopsy after this sudden death call this morning,” said police spokesman Gary Long.
“There was bloating on the man’s face. He could have had a heart attack and fell or it could be something nefarious. We are holding the scene, waiting for the autopsy.”
There is no clear time when the autopsy will be done, but the homicide squad has been notified, Long said.
Eugenia, who lives in the area, was taking her eight-month-old daughter home after a play day at the community centre when she heard of the death.
“It’s sad that someone died and it really bothers me if it turns out to be a murder. I live right here,” she said.
