TORONTO — Police have identified the victim of a drive-by shooting in Rexdale this week.
Andre Phoenix, 33, was walking in the parking lot of a Martin Grove Rd. plaza around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday when a car approached him and an occupant fired multiple shots.
The car — described as a light-coloured, four-door sedan — then fled westbound on John Garland Blvd.
Phoenix was rushed to hospital, where he died of his injuries.
Police said Phoenix was a father and employed. He didn’t live in the neighbourhood.
It is the second time in less than two months that someone has been murdered at the plaza.
Winston Freckleton, 56, was stabbed to death shortly before 12:30 p.m. during a fight in the parking lot on June 23. John Whittick, 30, is charged with first-degree murder.
Phoenix is the 60th homicide in the city this year.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers.
