Qalid Abderesak, 24 charged with attempted murder after Vaughan law firm targeted

A Toronto man faces charges including attempted murder after allegedly showing up twice with a gun at a Vaughan law firm.

“The motive as to why is still ongoing,” York Regional Police Const. Andy Pattenden said.

Shortly after 5 p.m. Friday, police were called to Carr Law at 3550 Rutherford Rd., near Hwy. 400, after multiple shots were fired through the front window of the office. Several employees were inside but no one was injured.

Police reviewed video surveillance and believed the gunman to be the same man who allegedly threatened an employee of the law firm on Aug. 28. They released images of a suspect Friday night.

“A week prior, (the gunman) went to the parking lot where an employee was sitting in her vehicle with a gun and made demands,” Pattenden alleged.

The man also allegedly hit the woman and stole her possessions before fleeing.

Qalid Abderesak, 24, is charged with attempted murder, extortion, robbery, assault with a weapon, discharging a firearm with intent, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and probation violations.

“This incident has demonstrated that York Regional Police will not tolerate gun violence,” Chief Eric Jolliffe said.
