TORONTO - A 22-year-old man is wanted for the brazen weekend shooting of two people, one of whom was an innocent bystander, at one of the city’s busiest intersections.
Toronto Police say the violence began with a “verbal confrontation” between two men at the southwest corner of Yonge and Dundas Sts., outside the Eaton Centre, around 1:20 a.m. on Sunday.
“One of the men drew a firearm from his waistband and fired four shots at the other man,” Const. Craig Brister said Wednesday.
The intended target was hit by the gunfire, he said, but one bullet also sailed across the street and struck an innocent bystander who was walking through Yonge-Dundas Square.
The gunman and several other people took off before police arrived.
“Both victims were treated at a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds,” Brister said.
He said investigators have since identified a suspect in the double shooting.
Alfredo Blass, 22, of Toronto, is wanted for two counts of attempted murder and an assortment of other related offences.
He is 5-foot-9, 160 pounds, with a medium complexion and a tattoo of “Yoanis” on his left upper arm.
“Blass should be considered armed and dangerous,” Brister said, urging anyone who spots the suspect to call 911.
